Screening
Screening is the use of tests to detect a disease in people who have no symptoms. No screening test has been shown to reduce the risk of dying from bladder cancer in people who are at average risk for this type of cancer.
Tests similar to those used to diagnose bladder cancer (cytoscopy and urine cytology) might be recommended for some people who are at very high risk, such as those who have had bladder cancer before or who have certain birth defects affecting the bladder.1 Tests for blood in the urine might also be carried out.1
